Cenovus is currently looking for a Senior Geophysicist to join our Conventional Heavy Oil team located in the Calgary office.
Reporting to the Senior Geoscience Manager for CHO the Senior Geophysicist will be responsible for evaluating and mapping development opportunities within their areas of responsibility.
The successful candidate will work in a highly motivated team environment and will assist in defining drilling opportunities, land acquisition strategies and EOR opportunities that add value to the portfolio.

Responsibilities:
Conduct seismic interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data with the view to identifying potential areas for primary heavy oil development
Drive and provide geophysical input for development/appraisal programs
Provide geophysical input to minimize risk, optimize well placement and increase production.
Plan and support seismic acquisition programs
Working Collaboratively with Heavy Oil team members to integrate geophysical, geological and engineering data into interpretations
Interact with seismic data processors and geophysical support staff to ensure delivery of high-quality data and/or analysis
Stay up to date on new technologies with focus on seismic utilization for MMV within the CO2 space
Define drilling opportunities through seismic mapping and integration of well data
Build and present technical assurance materials to senior management team
Define opportunities that are attractive and meet or exceed internal economic thresholds
Clearly outline timelines and technical progression of projects from evaluation to development phase
Evaluate land sale postings and provide technical input into bidding strategy as required
Define optimized pad development layouts and progress inventory into portfolio planning tool
Qualifications:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
A minimum of 8 years related industry experience.
B.Sc. Degree or higher in Geophysics
Member of APEGA or other Provincial Professional Geoscience Organization is required
Experience with Mannville stratigraphy, and regional exploration
Experience with a wide range of geoscience software such as Hampson-Russell, Jason, Petrel, SeisWare
Sound knowledge of geology including clastic depositional systems preferably with some exposure to Heavy Oil settings.
Demonstrates the ability to understand and operate effectively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.
Ability to evaluate regional play opportunities and prospect assessment.
Skills in 3D seismic visualization, seismic attribute analysis & other specialized geophysical interpretative techniques
Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and analytical skills
Ability to demonstrate task management and timeline control
