Reporting to the Director-Planning and Engineering. Job duties include overseeing all outside plant activity associated with telecommunications fibre deployment. Additional responsibilities will include managing permit submissions to each Municipality and reviewing engineering studies and engineering surveys.
The ideal candidate will also create and maintain construction design activities and construction builds activities according to CSA and ESA standards. Any high-priority sections of the OSP build may have to be done internally, as needed and identified by the program manager. Additional work tasks may include the management of survey tech, construction foreman, and AutoCAD tech. This position is an entry-level management position. 5+ years of experience in telecommunications construction is highly desired.
The ideal candidate would be an excellent team player who is able to work with minimal direction while producing high-quality results. Recent civil engineering graduates are highly encouraged to apply.
Role and Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Underground structure design and aerial structure design
- City civil work impact assessment on OSP structure
- Working with engineering firms and city engineering teams to find optimal solutions
- Validation and quality control of civil engineering plans
- Coordinating work schedule with cities and contractors, support planning and kickoff meetings
- Solving technical issues and conflicts with various players involved (engineers, inspectors, Program Manager, etc.)
- Following up on workload with contractors and communicating forecast and priorities
- Supporting field issues resolutions during construction and supervising inspections
- Monitoring and following-up on contractor performance and billing integrity
- Basic knowledge or experience of outside plant telecommunications network (wireline network)
- Civil work and engineering experience (design and/or construction)
- Communication skills: energetic and strong leadership attribute
- Autonomous, dynamic, and excellent teamwork-based approach
- Analytic ability, responsible, and good judgment
- Project management experience or academics GIS expertise
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree
- Engineer in Training status
- Expertise in AutoCAD
- Professional Engineer Certification in Ontario, highly desired
