A Fleet Department Manager’s main duties go way beyond driving. You will supervise truck drivers and take care of logistical tasks that help truckers do their jobs, such as embodying a safety culture, managing communications, and controlling the accuracy of shipments.
The lead driver also has an important responsibility to the truckers that they manage. They help train new drivers to follow safety procedures and make sure that all trucks are actually fit for use. Trucking is an important but also dangerous industry, and a lead driver needs to be a highly attentive, safety-oriented person to manage a smooth shipping operation and keep their drivers safe.
This position will be for our Kent Store located at – 10 Messenger Drive, St. John's, NL
What you will do:
Including but not limited to:
- Manage Day-to-day communication, via phone and satellite, with an assigned fleet of drivers to ensure proper load instructions are passed along and carried out
- Manage service concerns, as required, to limit exposure and minimize impact to the customer
- Coordinate with Planners to keep them updated on any issues within the fleet
- Enforce all driver D.O.T. laws are being followed
- Site inspections, proactive and reactive
- Assist other dispatch staff as required during spikes in workload
- Assist Planners by preparing and analyzing various Linehaul reports as required
- Provide Drivers with the right information and equipment in order to make the entire customer experience positive from start to finish
- Provide site inspections for sales team using delivery experience
What you will bring:
- You have a high school diploma or higher degree
- You have at least 1 year of experience in a Dispatch/Operations role/Driving experience
- You have solid interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and organizational skills
- You can work with minimal supervision under pressure and time constraints
- Class 3 with air brake endorsement would be an asset
