Operational Shift Coordinator

The Role:

The Operational Shift Coordinator, as a member of the team, is responsible for planning, set up, performing, and coordinating the activities of a group of employees engaged in material handling in the non-ferrous warehouse, processing, loading, unloading, and related auxiliary, and supplemental operations pertaining to raw materials.

Operate small mobile equipment (forklift, skid steer or others as required) for the purposes of loading and off-loading van trailers as well as for the sorting and storing of non-ferrous materials. Responsible for receiving, inspecting, grading for non-ferrous materials. This will include determining the grade and deduction/downgrades with complex knowledge of material upgrades cleaning and sorting and baler, and ability to train other’s. knowledge of non-ferrous materials is an asset, and continuous learning on the job is required.
Detailed Skills and Duties

Work involves moderately complex tasks, procedures or methods required to lead and small team.

Direct, instruct, assign and coordinate work with crew members to maintain a safe work environment, prioritize tasks, sustain efficient production and meet shipping schedules.

Operate equipment as necessary in order meet operational requirements, to minimize any delays in production.

Ensure accurate record keeping items and update schedules periodically throughout the day as required or directed.

Work in close coordination and cooperation with location leaders and perform other duties and work assignments as required and directed
-
Work closely with Inspectors to perform of all mandated inspections making adjustments to the process as necessary to ensure a quality products.

Assist with yard housekeeping efforts and perform other duties and work assignments as required and directed.

Assist co-workers in daily operational duties that are essential to the yard in terms of safety, efficiency, and profitability.

Problem solving input and contributions as required.

Additional Responsibilities
-
Follow all established Gerdau Safety, Environmental, and Routine procedures specific to the yard.
-
Work involves a variety of tasks, simple through moderately complex in nature, requiring some care to ensure correct procedures are being followed.

Ensure that all incoming scrap is scanned for radiation and that all material that fails the scan is quarantined and the appropriate personnel are notified.
-
Operate the loader and/or the material handler to assist in loading and unloading scrap material, while following the quality standards of Gerdau and the customer.

Ensure that all incoming scrap is inspected against quality, and environmental standards and appropriate deductions and downgrades are applied. Communicate findings with the scale in a timely manner.

Inspect and verify scrap for grade and quality. Identify deductions and downgrades.

Ensure that all outbound materials meet safety and quality standards.

Perform and document daily Routine Equipment Care (REC)

Detect and report faulty material, environmental hazards, safety, and/or improper operation of plant equipment or machinery; refer questionable and unusual matters to proper supervision. Maintain work area and equipment in a clear and orderly fashion.
