Founded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. We are situated on land where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. The traditional Blackfoot name of this place is "Mohkinstsis," which we now call the city of Calgary. Mount Royal University’s (MRU) Conservatory has played a pivotal role in Calgary’s performing arts scene since 1911, enabling people of all ages and abilities to take part in the performing arts. No other performing arts organization has a comparable history or serves as large and diverse a community, from early childhood education through all stages of life. As an educational leader and innovator, it is the largest institution of its kind in Canada; the Conservatory is unique in the breadth and scope of its programming.
The Faculty of Continuing Education, Conservatory, invites applications for Instructor, Speech Arts and Drama.
The successful candidate will offer comprehensive speech arts and drama training to students in Speech Arts and Drama group classes and / or private lessons.

The MRU Conservatory Speech Arts and Drama curriculum includes voice and speech development, interpretation and performance of literature, acting, public speaking, storytelling, and mime. The instructor will play an active role in designing lessons, selecting repertoire and recruiting and retaining students. The instructor will work collaboratively with the speech arts and drama coordinator to foster the growth of the program.
Group classes target particular age groups and areas of instruction including public speaking and storytelling, creative drama and choral speech. Private instruction is offered to students ages 5 and up.
- The instructor must bring expertise in speech arts and drama, including knowledge of voice and speech development, interpretation of literature for performance, acting, and creative drama.
- Familiarity and expertise with the Speech and Drama examinations curriculum of the Royal Conservatory’s Certificate Program is an asset.
- Bachelor of Arts, Theatre, or Education preferred (professional equivalency will be considered); experience working with young children; teaching experience; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; energetic and enthusiastic personality.
- Conservatory training (ARCT) is a strong asset.
