Olympic Industries ULC is currently searching for a highly motivated and innovative Data Engineer Intern to join our team from January through April 2024. Working alongside the Derivatives & Data Team, the Data Engineer will gain hands-on experience in constructing and maintaining data pipelines, optimizing infrastructure for scalability, and assisting on various AI and ML projects.
Reporting to the Derivatives Data Engineer and Data Scientist, the Data Engineer/Developer is responsible for the following as well as other related duties as assigned to support the business objectives and purpose of the company:
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes.

Develop and manage well-functioning databases and applications.

Assist in code optimization in data science and trading projects.

Troubleshoot and debug automation and scraping program code.

Provide data analysis and data sourcing responsibilities.

Assist in AI, ML projects.
To be successful as a Data Engineer, an individual must be committed to developing, maintaining, and demonstrating the following:
- An academic background in Computer Science, Software/Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.

1+ years of experience in writing SQL queries and working with databases, such as MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.

Strong programming skills in Python.

Familiar with data manipulation libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Seaborn, and Matplotlib.

Working knowledge of basic data structures and algorithms.

Knowledge/Experience in Google Sheets and App Script.

Knowledge/Experience in machine learning, data mining, statistical modeling, and forecasting.

Familiar with machine learning and data mining libraries (e.g. TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, XGBoost).

Knowledge/Experience in working with REST API and Web Socket to extract, manipulate, and automate data considered an asset.

Knowledge/Experience in front-end development with React, Angular, HTML, and/or CSS considered an asset.

Knowledge/Experience in back-end web frameworks such as Node, Express, Django, and/or Flask considered an asset.
- Proven ability to complete work in a timely manner with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.

Outstanding verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
