This position plays a key role in supporting the Ice River Sustainable Solutions (IRSS) Team in ensuring the successful implementation of our Temporary Foreign Worker Program while creating and building a high performance culture where employee engagement is a top priority. This integral business partner will assist in the development of IRSS Diversity and Inclusion Programs that will help Ice River become an ‘Employer of Choice’ within our market.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Human Resources Manager, providing a high level of service and ongoing support to managers, leaders, and employees on the interpretation and administration of all practices, policies and procedures.
- Provide day to day assistance to the Human Resources Manager in matters of employee relations
- Act as a primary contact for general employee inquiries and maintain high shop floor visibility at local plants
- Support the Ice River Sustainable Solutions leadership team and up to 650 full-time, seasonal and temporary employees
- Support the implementation of a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) program
- Participate in the development and continual updating of company policies, programs, and the Employee Handbook in accordance with legislated requirements
- Investigate any employee concerns and act as a liaison in seeking resolution
- Provide ongoing counseling and support to employees, Managers and Area Leaders, on all employee relations matters, including effective means of positive communication and reinforcement, disciplinary procedure, corrective action up to and including termination of employment and lay-off, and current applicable legislation, maintaining a balanced level of positive employee relations.
- Oversee the discipline process including progressive discipline for hourly and non-management salaried employees and providing support to Management/Supervision in the discipline process, to ensure fair treatment
- Support the recruiting efforts for open salaried and skilled trades positions from obtaining approvals through completion of probation in accordance with department procedure, including the Employee Orientation process, and ensuring appropriate on-boarding efforts are managed
- Promote and ensure all communication channels are fully utilized to ensure continuous dialogue among employees, supervisors and management.
- Advise, assist and monitor Area Leaders and Managers in conducting appropriate Performance Appraisals
- Conduct thorough investigations as appropriate in response to employee and management concerns
- Assist in analysis and preparation of various reports and graphs as required
- Maintain a detailed understanding of legislation, industry trends, and corporate policy
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all information obtained, written or verbal, within the HR Department
- Maintain a professional customer service oriented manner within the company and support the corporate image as per Human Resources departmental objectives and company policies
- Responsible to maintain training records and matrices and scheduling training when necessary for all personnel, ensuring compliance to internal approval policies and procedures
- Represent the Human Resources department and provide expert interfacing with external and internal contacts
- Perform all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by all health, safety and environmental rules and regulations, promoting safety in the workplace
- Conduct business in an ethical manner
- Participate in Green Team Program and JHSC Meetings. Support in the development of employee engagement initiatives
- Maintain work area in accordance with the principles of 5S and operate daily within these standards
- Ensure work area is kept neat and organized
Settlement Responsibilities:
- Provide information, orientation and appropriate referrals to community and government services
- Act as an advocate in helping IRSS Temporary Foreign Workers access services including education, health care and legal systems
- Conduct an assessment to identify needs and create a service plan
- Provide crisis intervention, and supportive counseling
- Prepare monthly statistical report
- Organize and facilitate group settlement workshops as needed
- Connect with partners and explore effective and efficient service sharing
Education/Experience Required:
- A degree in Human Resources Management
- Previous experience in the manufacturing sector and working with Temporary Foreign Workers
- A minimum of 5 years of experience with employee relations, regulatory and policy/procedure compliance
